Made in Sweden

More About the Maker: Skeppshult has been casting iron by hand in the small village of Skeppshult, in Småland, southern Sweden, since 1906. It was founded by Andersson, who came home from North America with casting know-how and started a foundry beside the Nissan River. The company is named for the village. Today it is described as one of the last foundries in Scandinavia still handcrafting cast iron household goods using traditional methods.

Every piece is made in house, with no outsourcing and no mass production. Iron is melted in induction furnaces and poured by skilled casters into sand molds, each used only once, so every piece is slightly individual. The castings are then ground, finished, and inspected. Cookware is pre-seasoned with organic rapeseed oil, which builds a natural non-stick surface without synthetic coatings. Wooden handles and lids, in beech or walnut, are attached by hand. Skeppshult makes fewer products and makes them well, with cast iron built to last for generations.
